The act of laying hands on the human body to comfort or relieve pain is a very natural and instinctive action. When experiencing pain, the first thing that most people do is to put their hands on it. When we have a fever, we place our hands on our forehead. When we are sick, it’s our stomach that we instinctively rest our hands on. In effect we are treating ourselves or others with a healing touch. This is the very basis of Reiki.Reiki has been effective in helping virtually every known illness or injury and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
The Reiki practitioner seeks to restore balance and facilitate healing on an ‘energetic’ level. In common with many other complementary healing systems, Reiki practitioners see most health concerns as arising from some kind of interruption to the optimum flow of energy within our energy system. The practitioner channels Reiki, usually as a gentle laying on of hands, and, to some extent, directs the Healing through the use of esoteric symbols which are an integral part of the system. Before treatment you will be asked a few simple questions relating to your health which is held in strictest confidence. The practitioner will place their hands either on or above the recipient’s body. Very often a feeling or warmth can be felt from the practitioners hands.
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
As the treatment progresses, the stress is released and a feeling of well being is usually experienced. Chronic illnesses usually respond well to Reiki, though in these cases some slight discomfort may be experienced in the beginning . Not only do physical symptoms begin to decline, the will to recover is strengthened and motivation becomes the best weapon for recovery. Some people go into such a relaxed state that they feel they have only been receiving treatment for a few minutes whereas in fact a full treatment usually takes approximately an hour.
As Reiki is said to help the body eliminate toxins it is recommended that you drink plenty of water after a treatment to help this process.
